13th to 24th May 2015 is the schedule of the 68th annual Cannes Film Festival. For the main competition, there are two Presidents which are Ethan Coen and Joel while it is also the first time that the jury will be chaired by two people. According to the traditions, there will be total 9 journalists in the panel including the Coen brothers. The opening and closing ceremonies will be hosted by the French actor Lambert Wilson.
The photographer of the poster of the festival is David Seymour while Swedish actress and Hollywood star Ingrid Bergman can be seen on that poster. Bergman was the Jury President at 1973 Cannes Film Festival while this poster is aimed to pay tribute to the actress for her contribution to the films. Apart from the poster, the actress will also be honored as the Cannes Classical section will also include the Swedish documentary “Ingrid Bergman: In her Own Words”.
The opening film of the festival will be the “Standing Tall” which is directed by Emmanuelle Bercot. In the history of the Cannes Film Festival, it is the only second opening film which is directed by a woman while the first film which opened the 1987 Cannes Film Festival was :A Man in Love” by Diane Kurys. The closing film of the festival will be “Ice and the Sky” which is directed by Luc Jacquet. The reason to choose the two films as the opening and closing of the festival is due to their messages. “Charlie Hebdo shootings” is the theme of the film “Standing Tall” while the future of the earth is the main concern for the movie “Ice and the Sky”.
At the closing ceremony of the film, French film director Agnes Varda will be given the honorary Palme d’Or while she will receive the award as the first female filmmaker.
