Several shampoos available in the market are full of harmful chemicals that ruin your hair and scalp like silicones, parabens and sulfates. With regular use, these chemicals will make your hair weak, dry and broken. You can change your experience with the use of natural shampoo and it is especially helpful for twisted or curly hair.

Sodium bicarbonate, commonly known as baking soda, is an easily available and inexpensive material. It has the ability to absorb grease due to which it can easily remove oil and other impurities from your scalp and hair. Your hair will become very shiny and soft after using it regularly.

Sodium bicarbonate opens the cuticles of hair due to its high pH of 9 which helps to allow moisture inside hair. Through open cuticles, the hair absorbs hydrating ingredients when they require them most. But you also need to close your cuticles after cleaning them otherwise the hair will become weak. Later, the pH level can be balanced by using an aloe vera mix or a diluted apple cider vinegar that will close the hair cuticle in order to seal the moisture in. Shine and softness can be maintained by using hydrating conditioner later. The baking soda cleanse should be used once in a week in order to prevent extra moisturizing hair.

You can easily make the baking soda shampoo with taking ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 2-3 drops essential oils for fragrance (optional)

Mix all these ingredients together and add more water if it is thicker than you like. After cleansing your hair with baking soda shampoo, do remember to close your cuticles and balance your pH level by using diluted apple cider vinegar or aloe vera juice. But if it is difficult to make your own shampoo then add a teaspoon of baking soda in your favorite sulfate-free shampoo that will do the same job as well.
